As the elections arrive around the corner, there come new face fronts of different parties, their backgrounds, and what not. As the poll counts of Chandigarh come to an end, the state gets its new mayor, Sarabjit Kaur Dhillon, who is a new entrant in politics from BJP. Though many reports have speculated this win of hers more on the luckier side, this win still remains a victory. Kaur belongs from Manimajra. The intellect and immense coverage of Sarabjit Kaur are quite obvious as the party won the election against AAP and Congress amid the rising farmers-related issues.
Reports have mentioned that Kaur was initially reluctant to contest the election as she wanted to dedicate her time towards the care of her daughter but eventually, she made it through by the wishes of BJP and her husband and former councilor Jagtar Singh Jagga, also from BJP. Jagtar Singh has previously served as a senior deputy mayor.

As for Chandigarh, a state with a mayor, Kaur seems to be an equalizer and truly a people person. Kaur is quoted as saying: “I am the mayor of the entire city and not of a party, and will try to take every party for the betterment of Chandigarh”. According to the reports, Kaur has mentioned that her focus primarily for now would be to improve the city’s cleanliness index and its ranking in the Swachh Sarvekshan. One of Kaur’s biggest challenges will be taking the opposition along with her for the smooth running of affairs, like easy passing of the proposals. Kaur’s role in forming the committees would also prove to be crucial for BJP. Chandigarh has got a woman mayor, after a woman commissioner and a woman member of Parliament. And Kaur, going by the trend, seems willing to take up challenges and solve matters at the forefront.
